IN DEFENSE OF THE RAYCROFT SIGNING

I like the Andrew Raycroft signing.

When you have Roberto Luongo on your roster, there’s only 8 to 12 games available for a backup. So you need someone with good team attitude and work ethic.

Raycroft is technically sound – with the exception of the top shelf shots.

He’s also large enough at 6′ and 185 pounds.

Raycroft needs help with his confidence: call Ryan Walter.

He needs help with his conditioning – has had knee, groin and hamstring injuries: call Dave Gagner.

And he needs continuous work on his technique: call both Ian Clarke and Roberto Luongo.

The kid was a very good goalie – won the Calder Trophy – and is in the right place to get back on track (Toronto and Colorado weren’t the best teams for a struggling goalie.).

And the price is right for Mike Gillis.

It leaves more money to put towards a good forward, or another good Dman.
