SCOTT ARNIEL TO DALLAS?

The Stars have fired Dave Tippett after seven seasons behind the Dallas bench.  It was Joe Nieuwendyk’s first act as Dallas’ GM.

TSN reports that the Stars have asked for permission to talk to former Kings coach Marc Crawford.

Don’t be surprised if 45-year-old Scott Arniel doesn’t win the position.

Arniel was named the winner of the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award in his third season as Moose head coach.

Arniel’s career head coaching record of 140-82-15, and .622 winning percentage ranks second among active AHL head coaches – with at least one full season.

His Calder finalists  rank first in the AHL in defence, allowing an average of 2.30 goals. Manitoba’s penalty killing is third at 86.0 per cent.

Arniel played in Winnipeg, Buffalo and Boston, and in the American and International hockey leagues – including 1996-99 with the Moose, where he was captain during his last two seasons.

He was next an assistant coach with Manitoba for two seasons (2000-02), and four with the Buffalo Sabres (2002-06).

*****

Scott Arniel has had four Dallas prospects on his roster – this season – and the Stars have been following his team closely.
