YOU WANT SEVEN TEAMS?

You’re saying you want a seventh team in Canada?

That’s a joke.

We’re having trouble with just six.

Calgary’s Mike Keenan was fired yesterday. Edmonton’s Craig McTavish was fired on April 15th, and Montreal’s Guy Carbonneau on March 9th.

Bryan Murray fired Ottawa head coach John Paddock on February 27th, 2008, taking over the coaching duties himself. Then he hired Craig Hartsburg and fired him on February 1st, 2009. He was then replaced by Cory Clouston.

So, in one year – from February 1st, 2008 until March 31st, 2009 – Ottawa had four coaches.

Similarly, should Bob Gainey hire another coach – if he still has his job – the Habs will have had three coaches in less than one season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs on May 7th, 2008, fired Paul Maurice, and replaced him with Ron Wilson.

The Leafs didn’t fare as well – under Wison – as they had under Maurice, but Wilson will keep his job because he is a friend of the Leafs’ General Manager, Brian Burke.

The only team with some stability  - which is scary – is the Canucks, who hired Alain Vigneault on June 20th, 2006 to replace Marc Crawford.
