THE CANUCKS: A TRADITION OF MULTI-TEAM PLAYERS

April 24th, 2009 · No Comments

This year’s roster is one of the Canucks’ best – ever.

Gone are the days of all those re-tread players.

The spreadsheet below – courtesy of hockeydb.com - lists the names of 19 former Canucks,  who are amongst the 50 players to play on 8 or more teams.

The current Vancouver roster has some multi-team players.

Pavel Demitra and Darcy Hordichuk have played on 5 different teams. Willie Mitchell, Ryan Johnson and Ossi Vaananen have played on 4, while Taylor Pyatt, Steve Bernier, Shane O’Brien and Roberto Luongo have played on three.

That’s only a third of the roster to play on more than two teams.

Most important, is that of Vancouver’s top seven scorers: the Sedins, Ryan Kessler, Alexandre Burrows, Kevin Bieksa, Alexander Edler, and Pavel Demitra, only the latter wasn’t a Canucks’ pick.

Four of Vancouver’s six top forwards have never played for another NHL team, and three of their top Dmen were Canucks’ draft picks.

Gone are the days when the Vancouver Canucks were supporting the NHL’s recycling program.
