FORMER CANUCK: TREVOR LETOWSKI

January 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

by Ron Spence
Trevor Letowski was a Canuck for only two seasons, but his story is interesting for a couple of reasons.
He has fallen victim to the NHL’s youth movement, which has driven him to the KHL.
The first article – below – describes what he went through while waiting for an NHL club to [...]

TRIVIA: CONSECUTIVE LOSS RECORDS

January 21st, 2009 · No Comments

by Ron Spence
We mentioned – in the Ripken article – that Baltimore went 21 losses in a row at the start of the 1988 season. This became the American League’s record.
It wasn’t MLB’s record, however. The National League’s record of 24 straight losses was set by the Cleveland Spiders* in 1899.
NFL fans will tell you [...]

Well here we are, the last game before the all star break.
All the pre-season predictions, all the early season successes and the horrible schedule that left us without some of our big guys when we needed them the most…it’s all been the classic roller coaster ride. And if there is anything that has [...]

TWO MVPS TALK LOSING

January 20th, 2009 · No Comments

by Ron Spence
To understand losing –  listen to a player who has lost, overcome adversity, and gone on to become the best at his game.
Cal Ripken Jr. was a two time American League MVP (1983, 1991) and a two time MVP selection at the All-Star Games (1991, 2001).
Magic Johnson was a three time NBA MVP [...]

It doesn’t matter whether you have a job or you’re in school…the same principles apply. Do you remember times when everything in the job was going your way? When everything you turned in got the best marks…the best brownie points? Ahh, the satisfaction you felt. The way everything you touched turned to [...]

PATRICK KANE: TALKING TOUGH

January 17th, 2009 · 2 Comments

by Ron Spence
Patrick Kane was talking tough.
Ottawa’s Nick Foligno had tried to run him and Kane brought up his stick into Foligno’s mouth.
Later, Kane – who drew a four-minute double minor – claimed that the blood-soaked Senator had taken runs at him on back-to-back shifts.
This was part of a trend, Kane was finding, during his second [...]

No B.C. raised player – besides Paul Kariya – has performed at more hockey levels than Doug Lidster.
Doug was born in Kamloops and played for the Kamloops Jardine Blasers, Chiefs and Rockets.  He was an offensive defenseman and scored 24 goals in 64 games and 36 goals in 59 games.
Next, he played [...]

Game 46: MAGIC AND REMARKABLE CONSISTENCY?

Well, there goes the column I was going to write! I admit, it wasn’t particularly original…something like The Return Of The King.
Okay, so I wasn’t the only guy going all-in on Luongo.
Did I have nagging doubts?
Well, there was the way we’ve been playing. Comparing it to famous scenes in horror movies…gee, [...]

FORMER 'NUCKS GOALIE: DREW MACINTYRE

January 15th, 2009 · No Comments

Crashingthegoalie doesn’t like to forget.
So we do profiles on ex-Canucks and where they are now – i.e. Jeff Cowan, jarko Ruutu, Matt Cooke, etc.
While he only appeared in a couple of Canucks’ games and one crashingthegoalie trivia question, Drew MacIntyre’s story is an interesting one.
KIRK PENTON, of the SUN MEDIA writes:
“You can bet Drew MacIntyre [...]
