It’s somewhat early to be predicting the NHL’s final standings, but the current numbers are interesting. Particularly for those fans west of the Canadian Rockies, who were told that their coach was going to be the first axed.
Vancouver leads the league in overall improved standings – to date – with an increase of 16 places (21st to 5th). Boston is second with an increase of 13 spots (from 15th to 2nd place). The Kings have risen from 29th to 18th, an increase of 11.
At the top of the league, the Rangers have risen from 9th to 3rd place. San Jose has gone from 2nd to 1st place and the Red Wings have fallen from 1st to 4th. Pittsburgh has fallen from 4th to 6th place and Montreal has fallen from 3rd to 7th.
Washington has risen from 12th to 8th and Philadelphia from 11th to 9th. Chicago has risen from 20th to 12th.
Dallas has crashed the furthest, from 8th to 30th. Ottawa had tumbled from 13th to 24th. Colorado has fallen from 10th to 21th.

Yeah Vancouver has been on a tear, and hopefully their offence will be able to keep it going while Luongo is out. I’m also very impressed with the sharks. Every game of theirs I’ve caught so far this year has been very impressive, and completely dominating.
