TRIVIA – YOUNGEST CAPTAIN

On the question of leadership, Jonathan Toews is Chicago’s twenty-year-old captain.

Who was the youngest player, in NHL history, to be named his team’s permanent Captain? Who was the youngest player to be named his team’s interim Captain?

The answer to the second question is Brian Bellows.

He was named Interim Captain of the Minnesota North Stars, in January, 1984 after Craig Hartsburg had been injured on January 10th. Bellows wore the “C” until May 31st.

The answer to the first question can either be Sidney Crosby or Vincent Lecavalier. Sidney became captain on May 31st, 2007, and Vincent on March 1, 2000.

Those were the dates that their captaincy was announced, and Sidney was then 19 years and 297 days, and Vincent was 19 years, 315 days.

But, on the dates of their first games wearing the “C”, Vincent was 19 years, 315 days and Sidney was 20 years, 59 days.

So, the answer depends on whether you’re a Lightning, or Penguins, Lecavalier or Crosby fan, I guess.
